Wondering if all these very big thunder and lightning storms are unusual weather patterns for the UK
I remember as a child in the 1950’s having dramatic thunder and lightening storms in the summer after we had had a sustained period of good weather. It was usually a one off though. I used to be fascinated and frightened all at the same time.

The higher temperatures are definitely a new thing the last few years. In the 1980’s/90’s we would always escape the UK in August for the south of France so we could enjoy 27/28 degree temperatures - well we’ve been getting them the past few weeks. I find the fierceness of the sun worrying

Finally got some rain along with some distant thunder and lightening about 6.30 tonight, unfortunately not enough rain to put much in the butts but at least my garden got a bit damp.

We have a downpour forecast for tomorrow morning..and do you know what? I'm really looking forward to it. Me & the dogs in the pouring rain.
And so it rained. It was warm and wet - straight down rain, not the unpleasant sideways rain we often have. We romped. We got wet. We loved it....also I got a chance to wear my new waterproof trousers, I bought them after a thorough soaking up at the field 2 weeks ago which saw my inappropriate jeans sliding downwards. Not over-trousers, but very lightweight summer waterproofs.

I was sat in the conservatory earlier this afternoon - windows and doors wide open - it was sunny. All of a sudden heavy rain for several minutes - scrabbled to shut windows and doors. F was walking Red - I expected both of them to be very wet. They appeared 15 minutes later bone dry. I said ‘Red’s not wet’, F said ‘She’s not been in the water’. I said but it’s just rained heavily. Apparently not a quarter/half of a mile away. Weird

Interesting evening walk. Delayed going out a bit as torrential rain 🌧 - it then stopped so off we set. Quickly got drenched from head to foot by car going too quickly through a puddle - wasn’t well pleased but then the heavens opened up again. It bucketed it down so it just added to my drenched look. The rainbow 🌈 was lovely to see though

Mild, still and all peaceful here in the Calder Valley thisevening. Difficult to imagine the winds we have predicted for tomorrow! I'm trying to decide on our morning walk. Would like to go up to the Moor via the woods, and we have the time tomorrow to do this. Think I'll decide once I've seen what the weather's up to though.

Our coastal towns and villages have been issued with a Weather Warning for possible severe flooding , due to gale force wind ( 70 mph ) and very high tides . These will be in place from now until late tomorrow . RNLI have issued warnings for people not to go in the sea , sadly falls on deaf ears a lot of the time . We are safely uphill from the coast , but I have family and friends in Looe , oh yes and thunder storms chucked in for good measure x

It sounds like the weather is going crazy over in the UK. Heatwaves and now crazy wind and storms

Our glimpse of spring has gone and the temps are slowly dropping again. We had 3 or 4 perfect days with highs of 20/21 but now it's back to 17 today and only 15 tomorrow. That is about as low as it gets here
