Wow, that’s crazy! And yes, I’m very impressed! We have some very frigid temps forecasted for the next 5 days, thanks @Lisa! But then it’s supposed to level out to normal again. “Rug up” @Jacqui-S and @Sophiedoodle!
Ha ha sorry not sorry as it’s supposed to warm up here...more normal temps of around -10 or so.

So brutally cold here at the moment. But the sun is shining so that lifts the spirits. I bundled up (“rug up”) to the max for our daily walk (normally we get out 3x a day but not right now). There was a proper wind today, when it’s -27 the wind chill was in the -40s. But I managed to stay warm except for the spot on my face where I peek out of the baclava. It’s a right pain because of course my glasses fog(ice) up like crazy and I have to take a glove off to use a finger to swipe the ice off....ugh. Simba trotted along enjoying sniffs and getting outside but once we turn into our cul de sac he’s VERY happy to get home. Me too!:cold:

This much snow and the length of this cold snap is unusual isn't it?
I would say not really too. Going on winters over my lifetime it's the gales and heavy rain that are unusual. A spell of cold winds from Siberia in February is quite normal.

As youngster waiting for the school bus I recall seeing my breathe in the cold air and blowing into my gloves to try and warm up my hands. I don't think that we were as aware of the actual temperature in those days, it was just "bloody freezing" !! :cold::cold:

And the schools were always open, and if your bus couldn't get there you just walked.
Yes, snow has always come in the past, just in recent years it has been less often, and people don't seem to know ho to cope with it. Our ca6ts are probably less adapted to it as well, not saying anything about driving skills.
Of course, snow tyres and chains are virtually never used in the uk.

Second rookie mistake: getting all the wet weather gear out because it's been chucking down for hours, only for the sun to come out JUST as you open the door. Now blazing sun, not a cloud in the sky. Welcome to Spain in the spring!!! :cwl:

That IS Spain!

I actually got very superstitious from living in Spain: don't take your sunglasses on a hike because that will make it rain for sure, but definitely take your rain jacket because that will mean it stays warm and sunny. My permanent look was squinting with a jacket tied around my waist.

Dont know if any of you saw, but parts of Scotland got down to -18 oC last night.
@Lisa and @jazzmynn and @Shamas mom might even be impressed.......
I AM impressed, for Scotland!

We have Warmed up to -8 today. Shamas would like to go out, but my boots broke during this lockdown and I have only mesh summer running shoes. Staying close to home right now.

Looks like we have another cold snap coming next week. Then a slow warming trend. Talk of things opening up on the 16th, so I'll be able to get boots for my birthday :)

When I was at school, they would close if it got to 40 degrees.
I remember sitting with our coats on in a bitterly cold classroom and the history teacher saying that the school ought to be closed because ’the minimum temperature in Her Majesty’s prisons has to be 60F degrees‘. Needless to say, the school wasn’t closed and we just wore as many layers as possible!
