I bought a pot of basil today. Put it on the window sill in the kitchen, as I do with all my indoor growing herbs. The window is double glazed, the kitchen has central heating, yet within just over an hour my poor basil plant was looking much the worse for wear, with leaves turning purple /black and dropping off! I moved it to a spot near the radiator and it's much happier now.So cold up here!

Today we have a high of -1. I don’t remember living here, it ever being below freezing all day. It is the last day of freezing temperatures though for the time being - looks like the mud will be back - deep joy!
The temperatures here definitely remind me of Scotland. I don’t really mind the freezing underfoot as it keeps the mud at bay, it’s the wind that’s making it miserable walking.

We seem to have had our heating on 24/7 for the last 5 or 6 days.
I need it to go OFF and get some fresh air in the house but with our frozen hot water pipe - which the plumber fixed, phew - OH has "The Fear".
I'm going to have to wait until he goes out to open all the windows and switch it off for a couple of hours......
I had no hot water or heating all day yesterday. The pressure had dropped in the system, easy to fix but our boiler is up in the loft and I don't do lofts or ladders 😁. It really wasn't too bad, had the small oil filled radiator up in the office and got it up to 16°c, the rest of the house was 11 - 12°c. The worst bit was no hot water to wash my hands and wash up with.

Yesterday I was outside all day working in the garden in a vest top, with a trip to the river with Ginny at lunch time for a plate of patatas bravas. Today, it’s drizzling and grey. It really can’t make up its mind.

Yesterday was a strange day. Sunny all morning, but very cold. In the afternoon it started snowing for about an hour or so and was still freezing. In the early evening the sun came out again for an hour. Today is dry at present, but the wind is strong and it’s -1. I expect with the wind it is more like -5 or -6. Not going to like our walk today!

Snow gone down here in the valley, but still there on the tops. It's dull and very grey with a bitter wind and it looks as if there's going to be precipitation of some sort before long, so I'm off to gather winter fuel (well, bring it in from the garden) before it starts, then we can spend the rest of the day being cosy.
