I've just put the electric fan by the bed incase it's really hot tonight, first time in a few years. Then it occurred to me, we've got electric hook-up on the campsite! So I can take the fan with me and I don't have to worry about Joy overheating! Or me, for that matter, but I was more concerned about her. That's another thing added to the list!

Do everything you can to stay out of that smoke, Lisa, and to keep it out of your house. Your house is probably pretty airtight to keep out the cold, but plug or tape up any gaps. If you go outside wear a N95
mask if you can get one, and use a new one each day. That smoke is toxic and the particles are very fine and lodge way into your lungs (they get into your bloodstream they are that fine).

Yeah. Unfortunately we were in the city for a couple of days and had to take the pooch out for walks as we had no garden at the condo. Staying put today though. We’re at a 7-9 for air quality today here.

The current heatwave has confused Holly. We’re getting up really early to walk her before it gets hot. The early start means that elevenses (with dog treat) is about 8:45, after which there is a long wait until lunchtime. By 10:00 she’s convinced that it should be lunchtime and starts to ‘remind’ us, but then runs out of energy in the heat and has a snooze.
She normally snoozes after lunch so when she wakes up she is convinced that its the afternoon. But she hasn’t had lunch so it can’t be. We eventually give in and have an early lunch so she can settle down.
Afternoons she tries to snooze. She wanders around the house and garden trying to find somewhere cool. Eventually she gives up and crashes out somewhere. By tea time she needs a lot of comforting as her daily routine is thoroughly messed up. Tea finally provides a familiar anchor to the day. After tea she has a play, then runs out of energy again and snoozes in the living room with us.
If its not too hot she gets a short walk before bedtime, then tries to settle down to sleep on our bed. Its so warm at night that she cant settle, and spends the night moving between our bed and anywhere cool.
Then we get up and start all over again….

I have managed to keep Rourke's routine the same. I live on the edge of a very shady. cool lane, so a very short walk mid morning. About 4 pm I drive about a quarter of a mile down that lane, as now the sun has got to it and the lane too hot for Rourke's paws. I park at the bottom of a wide bridleway which used to be a Roman road and pop him in the stream there and we go for about half an hour walk. Large oaks have been planted either side of this bridleway as it used to be part of a large estate, so another shady walk. I actually don't really like walking up this place as it feels scary, so normally I never walk there! Still scared but ideal in this hot weather.

I`m not too well at the moment so Paul has been taking the dogs to the river at 6 in the morning , to avoid other dogs whilst they are both in a sort of isolation ( recovering from Kennel Cough ) . Reuben has a good old splash around to keep him cool for several hours , they dont stay long as we dont feel they should be around other dogs for a little time yet . Once home, they sleep , him on the kitchen floor and Nelly in front of the fan in the sitting room . I`ve just been out in the garden to water , and threw a few balls around for Reubs but it is still 24 degrees so I`m not doing too much with him x

Joy hasn't wanted to do much at all today, which is unusual for her. She shows no signs at all of being poorly, but seems to want to sleep a lot. I think it's a combination of the very busy time she had camping and the warm weather. Here she is just now. 20210722_203327.jpg
