A relatively peaceful day here, still pretty windy up on the moor, but then it usually is. Sitting quietly just now and Whoosh! Rattle rattle rattle ! The wind is back again, along with the rain! Peace and quiet was short lived!
However, that is outside. Inside there's the crackling of the Fireinametalbox and the snoring of the Labrador, so all is OK really. šŸŒŖšŸ’¦šŸŒ§šŸ”„šŸ„°:giggle:

Dodging the wind and rain again today - there was a huge downpour early this morning. The rain beating on the window woke me up! There’s now a hail storm.

The tree that has blown down in our local park is still blocking the path, but as we were the only intrepid walkers I had time to take some photos. Its roots are still in the ground, together with the other half of the tree, but the trunk had snapped.

This flood up north has bypassed any in living memory. 300,000 residents are under evacuation orders and in Lismore, which is where my Mum grew up, the scenes are more than your brain can comprehend. They are calling it a 1 in 1000 year event.

This before and after photo sums it up

We just watched transfixed as a brave army helicopter crew rescued three people from a roof. The wind was howling and the water still rising and then we spotted their dog in a tinny attached to the house. Our hearts sank as the news reader said she didn't think they would be able to rescue it. The second person winched up had a very large bag in his arms and in the next shot the dog was no longer in the boat. They are reporting now that the dog was rescued too, thankfully. All three people rescued safely, but there are hundreds and hundreds more

The 'rain bomb' is due to hit Sydney tonight with up to 200mm of rain in 6 hours. I am so thankful to be on the high side of our street

It's so devastating. I was just reading that the abbatoir workers were among the first to turn up to help and were carrying frail old people to safety from a nursing home. So touching and heartbreaking.

I think as someone who thankfully has never experienced flooding, you imagine that it's slow enough to happen that you can get out the way/move things upstairs etc.
But.seeing flooding increasingly reported, and its severity and rapidity, and often overnight, it's just awful and devastating.

I admit that the person who may have been washed down a drain is preying on my mind.

Stay safe guys :hug::thelambiesarecoming::hug:
