The UK/Europe heatwave made it to our news today. Apparently it might hit 40 degrees in some parts of the UK for the first time ever. That is seriously hot anywhere but let alone where extreme heat is abnormal and I guess most places don't have air-conditioning. I shudder to consider those sorts of temps without aircon. Here you would find it hard to find somewhere without it

Brace! Brace! We used to live in Oman where it was 40 every day in summer and humid. We got used to it but the house and everywhere else was air-conditioned of course. Not looking forward to Monday and Tuesday. We're just south of London. I'm actually quite worried about Poppy. Wet towels and the hosepipe perhaps.

I have bought a 'cool coat' for Rourke, no idea if effective or not, but friend uses them on all four of her dogs and is pleased.

With cardio vascular issues ,I`m finding it a struggle already so heaven knows how I will cope if ( when ) it gets hotter . Air con must be wonderful but for now we have fans blowing , I just want to sleep . We are going to fetch the family back from Looe in an hour or two , I will be travelling with my nightie on so fingers crossed we dont have an accident Stay safe all xxx

I have bought a 'cool coat' for Rourke, no idea if effective or not, but friend must all four of her dogs in one and is pleased.

Neo had a ‘cool gaiter’ delivered today. I was quite skeptical when I ordered it but I have to say I’m really impressed. He’s had it on for an hour and a half and it’s still nice and cool, plus he’s happy wearing it. Hope Rourke likes his cool coat

Harv has one and it really seems to work. We were at Hanbury Show (a few years ago now) on a very hot day and the gun dog display team had all of their dogs in them between displays. They let Harv borrow one for a few minutes while we took a rest and we bought one not long afterwards.

We’ve got 5 cool mats around the bungalow. Harley lives lying on them when she’s a bit too warm. Going to put a few in the fridge overnight Sunday & Monday just to make them extra cool.

I really feel for you. When it's in the 40s here, we have the aircon running day and night.

A few tips:
Keep all blinds/curtains closed
Try to minimise opening doors and/or windows
If there is one side of the house that gets the afternoon sun, if possible, shut the doors to those rooms and don't use them at all
Use a spray bottle filled with water to cool yourself down
Put wet face washers/flannels in the freezer and grab one out when you need to cool down (this is really helpful when you can't sleep!)
Have a cool shower before bed and leave your hair wet
Try to go somewhere cool during the worst part of the day (shops/library/cinema etc.)

You must be sending some warmth vibes down here as today is glorious and going to be 20 degrees. Hopefully we can eat outside tonight. We are cooking up a four course feast for Steve's last 'real' food for quite a while

We had the first course, nibbled the second and I am now putting the prepped but uncooked 3rd and 4th in the freezer. We couldn't eat it. Too anxious I think

It's 8.30am and we have an interminable wait until lunch time when I will drop him at the hospital. He had to have a light brekkie at 6.00am but is now snoozing on the couch with Maxx at his feet.

Re the cool coats, please check that they don’t make your dogs overheat. They do warm up, some faster than others. They work when the crystal is melting and drawing heat. But once the crystal has melted, it starts to warm up. I prefer the cooling mats cos then the dog can decide whether to move off them if they warm up.
