What made you smile today?

We had mashed potato and a fried egg when we were poorly :hmm: I've not thought about that for a while, rather strange on reflection...
My "I've got a nasty cold" meal as a kid was some sort of beef pie (minced beef or chunky beef, with mushrooms or onions or kidney) with a homemade shortcrust pastry lid. Then, for afters, homemade apple shortcake and Superwhip!
I still crave beef pie when I have a cold :)

My Mum has the same problem Kate! Drawing blood they only had young trainees available and do you know who was the best for my Mum? The friendly porter! He told the nurse to put a very warm towel on the arm and the warmth brings the vein to the top which helps! It worked a treat! I remember the relief on my Mum's face when the nurse found the vein straight away! We loved that porter who really made an effort to help everybody.

How brilliant ! I was advised to drink lots of water and keep my arm warm too , it did the trick x

A colleague who became a firm friend when she and I shared an office sent me a text today. Just as a bit of background information, the NHS Trust I worked for (and where she still works) has an online suggestion box. Some of the suggestions would have us in stitches, also some of the replies, which always start with a polite "Thanks for your suggestion". This is what she sent me today:
Suggestion:
Pawternity Leave.
Is there a policy/scheme which covers time off for staff who have a new puppy? If not, could this be considered as a helpful way to improve wellbeing?
Reply:
Thanks for your suggestion. This is a lovely idea, who doesn't want to spend time cuddling puppies! However the NHS has a generous annual leave allowance and staff can purchase extra annual leave if needed- up to two weeks. We don't offer specific support to staff for the introduction of new pets into their family.

Oh, well......... nice try!

Watching the boy, who 5 years ago couldn’t even be in a room with a stranger, walk into a room and do his piano exam.

Honestly if I got any prouder I would burst!
I hope he does well @Leanne. I truly hated piano exams, they are terrifying, so for your son to be able to do it is just incredible. I can only imagine how proud you must be
