What made you smile today?

St Martin's Day is celebrated in Germany and surrounding countries- confusingly in November but I guess the school celebrates it in winter here... Kids in Germany all make lanterns at school and walk around town singing, then have a bonfire and pretzels.
I couldn't figure this one out as I thought - wait, that's in the winter, isn't it?! But yeah, I guess it's your winter so maybe it makes sense. It's always really cute seeing the kids with their little lanterns. 😊

Yes, it would be a bit weird to do it in late spring in warmth and broad daylight! It was so nice for us to realise that after babyhood and lockdown we can now do things out and about in the evenings. Not that we were ever big "going out" people, but just a meal or evening market is doable.

I'm not sure if this "made me smile" but it sure did make me giggle.

I'm sitting here in my bedroom which is also the defacto home office, working my Sunday afternoon away, and started hearing what sounds like a woman in distress. I'm four floors up, but you still get street noise even on a Sunday when the town is nearly deserted. Then I hear what sounds like slapping shoes on pavement, like someone is running from something.

I'm thinking, how on earth do I know if this person is in danger and needs help? How do I get her help? Call the police? I mean, normally NOTHING happens in Regensburg in broad daylight (it's a very safe town) but you never know.

Just then, I realise that it's not coming from the street, it's coming from the windows (actually skylights in the roof) directly opposite me. And it's decidedly a happy kind of screaming vs an...unhappy kind. If you know what I mean.

Thankfully I didn't go all vigilante and try to save the young woman before I figured it out. I say "young" because she lasted a long, long...loooong time. Kudos to her and her "friend". It made me think, "More power to them, but it sounds absolutely exhausting."

I really am officially an old fart, now, aren't I? :giggl:

Now I'm trying to sneak in a joke about something being colossal but it's not working for me. A colossal hill? Colossal donkey? :giggl:
Actually what we saw was a colossal amount of donkeys going up a colossal hill with colossal people on their backs, which made us quite colossally sad. However that was a colossal amount of years ago, and maybe things have changed and are kinder now. I do hope so.
Still a beautiful island though.

Joy and Loki, the Spaniel nextdoor have a new game. They've started passing the ball to each other through or under the side gate. It's difficult to see in these photos because Joy's head keeps getting in the way, but you'd have to have a heart of stone to see it and not smile!20220831_162907.jpgLoki passes the ball to Joy. 20220831_163538.jpgHe sits, asking for it to be passed back.20220831_162919.jpgJoy passes it back. 20220831_163651.jpgShe waits for Loki to pass it back to her. And so on!.......
