What made you smile today?

I had a lovely walk with Trevor's daughter Donna today, now that lockdown has been relaxed a little again in this area. Tomorrow I'm going to briefly meet two friends outside a pub to discuss him building a shed and a log store for me, and to swap vegetables. They're giving me courgettes, I'm giving them asparagus peas. It will be lovely to see them again!

I've been smiling since visiting my friends yesterday where Cassie comes from, we hadn't been back since we went on the shoot there at the end of January.

It was so good to see them and have a good catch up, we never got round to going for the planned walk we spent so long just sitting in the garden nattering. Cassie had a great time hanging out with their 5 Labs (well one is a collie x) -- her Mum, her sister, her auntie, a cousin and an unrelated yellow boy.

It's amazing how the simplest of outings make you so happy in these tricky times.

We finished our walk on the moor today by the pool so Joy could have a game of swimmy fetch and a drink. We were joined by a gorgeous little cocker spaniel, just 21 weeks old, called Honey. Her owners were trying to get her to swim, by gradually throwing her ball further and further into the pool. The point came where she couldn't reach it without swimming which she wasn't ready to do, so she was whimpering and trying to reach it with her paw. Joy was watching this and then, still carrying her own ball, she walked out to Honey's and picked that up too. I thought 'Oh no! Here we go again! She's not going to give that back!' but she walked back to the pup and Veryvery sweetly dropped the ball at her front paws! This suddenly brought back a lovely memory of Solstice at about the same age swimming out to fetch a ball back for a young Springer who wasn't confident enough to fetch it himself, also in the pool on the moor. My kind dogs!

When Joy was younger she used to go to daycare one afternoon a week so that if I ever needed someone to look after her she would be known there, and it did prove useful. She's always been quite a shy and cautious dog and there was a very gentle young man who worked there who she absolutely loved and who always really looked out for her. He was also one of the Flyball trainers. The Daycare place has closed down now and I have often wondered what this young man( his name is Connor) is doing, as he would be my person of choice to look after Joy when I go on holiday. Coming back from our walk thismorning we saw him. He had a black labrador and a French bulldog with him. Joy was beside herself with excitement to see him again, squeaking and covering his face with kisses. He's now working as a dog Walker and is doing house and dog sitting! Absolutely ideal! I've got his phone number and have booked him to look after Joy when I go away next September. I couldn't be more pleased!
