What made you smile today?

A big smile for the hedgerows turning slowly to Autumn. I had a lovely walk with Coco this morning. The temperature is 17C and rising, there is barely any wind and the sun is shining, it streams through the trees, picked out by a little smoke from a nearby bonfire which smells delightful. All the fruits are ripening, the Hawthorn berries, the blackberries, some Victoria plums (I couldn't reach them - they used to hang over the wall, but the tree has been cut back). The orb spiders have been busy, so many perfect, silver webs picked out by the morning sunlight. I pointed out some Cuckoopint fruits to Meg. They are shiny green at the moment, soon they will turn to vivid red. Not to be eaten! Yes, a fine morning to bring a big smile.

You describe it beautifully @edzbird - these are the things I’m loving at the moment. Ooh, and the sloes of course! Everything seems about 4 weeks later than last year.

@edzbird and @HAH y'all are making me miss Cornwall even more!

It's a beautiful day here in Regensburg but in the middle of town not too many lovely smells and berries. More garbage collection day pong and discarded pretzel bits and other unmentionables on the cobblestones...but hey, that adds to the medieval authenticity. 😉
The original medieval experience is definitely something you could sell to the tourists ;)

I'm absolutely certain you belong here, it's just a matter of negotiating the stepping stones in between. So, y'know, enjoy the ride, safe in the knowledge you'll come home before too long [altho' at the moment Cornwall is no joke - Covid cases are highest in the country, and it's busier than ever according to my Cornish friends. Bring on the Atlantic winter storms!].

I'm sure the hundreds who are here are enjoying it. Thankfully it's only on trash day, but whew...you do get a glimpse of the medieval life one day a week! 😂

Thanks for helping me keep the hope alive! And you're right, I actually WOULDN'T want to be there now or any time in the summer. This is one emmet who isn't going to add to that particular Cornish problem. I'm sorry to hear about the COVID numbers down there, though. I've been taking a news sabbatical for the past couple weeks so wasn't aware of that going on in Cornwall. 🙁

It’s lovely here, 20° and sunny - my favourite.

I’ve accidentally (read impulsively!) bought three lovely, tiny ghost koi. One white, one yellow and one orange. They are gorgeous and glint beautifully in the sun.

I went to the shop for minnows and they didn’t have any - and my impulsive nature took over. Ooops 🤭

My friend with the huge koi pond will have them when they grow too big for my 200 litre pond, so all is well.

Now I need names for them. 🤔🙂

The white one is by far the bravest. I have lots of places for them to hide and she came out first, then the yellow then the orange - he’s very shy.

Biggest smile from me this afternoon , I took the dogs out , me on my scooter to a place where Reuben can access the river at about 6 points on the two mile walk and he didnt miss one of them :giggl: It did my soul so much good as I have been very low , but how you can stay low when watching young buzzards circling overhead and listening to the river running by , best of all seeing my beloved dogs having a wonderful time . The coastal towns and beaches are heaving and not for me as I`m sort of isolating myself as much as possible in preparation , but give me the quiet countryside every time, and two very happy dogs xx
