What made you smile today?

Me and my mam talking about potty training - getting ready to start with Rory, think he’s ready now.

I said I’m just going to put him on the potty every half an hour and reward him if he does a wee or a poo. She was like I’ve never heard that method before, did you read that?

Me: ermmmm well that was how I toilet trained Stanley and it worked sooo… 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Shamas mom Well done! I take my hat off to you, walking both dogs together. I have only dared walk Coco & Meg together on a 150 yard stretch from the car to a field gate. I certainly couldn't manage if we were to meet another dog. I walk them one after the other usually.

We had our first wee in the potty he other day. Much excitement. Rowan is still ambivalent about it so we aren't pushing. Going to do it the lazy way and hopefully one day he will just want to do all his wees in the potty. That's the plan anyway.

Nathan toilet trained himself 🤷🤣. One day he walk out, went to the toilet and announced that he wouldn't be wearing nappies anymore. He had less than a handful of accidents ever.

Somehow I don't think we'll get that lucky with Jackson 🙄😬
This is what I'm hoping for. :D How old was Nathan? My main concern with Rowan is that he is too busy to remember to go.

I'm trying to be patient here
My little grandson finally became toilet trained in January - he’ll be 4 in May…..so he was quite late - all the other grandchildren have been much much earlier. However, his parents were not unduly concerned (I had visions of him going to school this September still in nappies!). He’s their 4th child and he has shown consistently that he will do everything when he is ready and not before. He literally went from nappies one day to clean and dry the next

Rowan is a kid who doesn't respond well to pushing.
Rory is the complete opposite and has to be pushed to do anything otherwise he’d never do it. Still hands his spoon over when he’s eating like you feed me 😇

He also responds VERY well to b̶r̶i̶b̶e̶s̶ rewards and never forgets anything. So we have a reward chart that he’s already announced proudly to his nanna if he gets to the end with the stickers he gets to go and pick a toy :giggl:

We haven't had this since Rowan was about 9 months old (except when sick)! I love how kids all gave their own personalities that really shine through even at such a young age. Though having such an independent toddler certainly has its drawbacks when it comes to efficiency.

@Atemas that is my gut feeling of how things will go for us, just a matter of being patient.

I wouldn't risk it if they were collared, but the headcollar makes Angel manageable....it's the only thing that does. Without it, I have to have my full attention on her and be in training mode. With her 75-80lbs, and Shamas' 87, I'm outweighed at this point...so they MUST be well behaved for me to walk them both. Else you'd be watching them drag me down the road!

That’s why I mention it really - go with your gut feeling. I think first time parents (and remember I was one many moons ago - she’s now 45 😊) feel under pressure to do things when the child maybe has other ideas. I love watching my little grandson’s development. He has definitely been slower reaching milestones than the others but it’s all happened and I can’t believe he’ll be starting school in September. I know he’ll be ready

Yesterday was Anzac day here in Australia (and New Zealand). The weather was beautiful for late in April - mid 20's and still warm in the evening.

OH and I took Nathan to the MCG for an Afl footy game that is always played on Anzac day. Before the game they have motorcade with war veterans, followed by a reading of The Ode (from the poem For the Fallen), the last post, minute silence and national anthem.

90,000 people in the crowd and you could hear a pin drop in the minute silence. It makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.

Following this is the footy game. Two rival teams, and we're supporters/members of one of the teams.

Nathan's little mind was blown as he recognised his favourite players on the ground.

Then, at half time, he got to run out on the ground and play his own little game as part of Afl Auskick.

Finally, our team won the game in a nail biting finish!

What a day!
