On these cold and usually wet winter evenings I have taken to leaving an old towel over the radiator by the back door, so that when Joy asks to go out into the garden I can dry her and wipe her paws as soon as she comes back in. Thisevening though, it hasn't rained (yet) so she hasn't had her rub dry.
She came back in from the garden and waited by her towel. I said 'No, it's OK, you're not wet, so you don't need drying '. Well! Talk about indignant! She looked at her towel, gave a bit of a squeak, then biffed me with a paw! So of course I had to oblige.
I'm now wondering if she asks to go out because she wants a wee, or if it's more that she enjoys being rubbed with a warm towel. Whatever it is, she's getting very bossy and cheeky as she gets older and of course I am putty in her paws!

They’ve got us trained! Do you give her a treat after you’ve rubbed her with the towel? I give Tuppy one and she expects a treat for that and one for coming indoors too.… but that has extended to Tuppy waiting by the treat cupboard door if I come in from the garden and she’s already in!

I was stacking logs from a recent delivery today, when a young man ( well, young to me, probably in his 40s) stopped by the gate. He was carrying a bunch of daffodils. 'Excuse me,' he called, 'I bought these today, only I've just got a cat and I've read that they're bad for cats. Would you like them?' Well, it was on the tip of my tongue to say, 'Don't believe everything you read, I've had cats and they never had any problems with daffodils ', but then I thought ' How long is it since a young man gave me flowers, and when is it likely to happen again?', so I smiled (graciously) and said 'Thankyou very much, they're beautiful!' and here they are in my kitchen, making me smile!😊20260113_141032.jpg

Just Googled 'Are daffodils poisonous to cats?' and yes, they are if they're eaten, but so are they to dogs! I've never had problems with either, but I suppose it's easier to keep flowers out of the way of cats than it is dogs, unless you have them growing in the garden. Then again, Joy is dog number six, five of whom have been Labradors, and I've nearly always had daffodils planted somewhere, and never had them eaten, even by puppies, so it seems pretty low risk to me.

Today is the first time in nearly 3 weeks I've felt almost 100% after that hideous chest infection so I got stuck into the 'spring' cleaning I intended to do in my holidays. So there's furniture everywhere and Maxx had a ball sniffing new corners but mostly 'helping' Steve outside. It makes me smile to see the bond between these two

Note the chewed-up box he helped himself to in order to shred it. I was planning to use it! Oh well
