Increased urinating and increased drinking are both signs of a UTI.
Wispa didn’t eat all of her breakfast this morning and her symptoms hadn’t improved, so I phoned the vet again, rather than risk waiting until Tuesday. The vet who has arranged the scan said I should take her in but to see a different vet, as unfortunately she wasn’t available. The urine sample showed that she has a UTI, so she now has more antibiotics and some painkillers. She wasn’t keen on either of those, not even hidden in extra-smelly treats from the vet, so I’m going to have to resort to bribery with Brie or pate again. If your vet didn’t do a urine test it might be worth nipping a urine sample in to the vets for a dip stick test
She seems a bit brighter, thank you. She was let out a couple of times in the night, but hadn’t had any accidents when she woke up this morning. She had some of the tinned low fat ID food for her breakfast and ate it all. I then offered her some of the low fat ID kibble, but she didn’t really want it. However, by early afternoon she was looking hungry so I tried the kibble again and she was happy to be hand-fed!How is Wispa today @Granca
Yes, thanks - I used that initially to give her the first lot of antibiotics, but then thought I probably shouldn’t if pancreatitis is a possibility. The nurse gave me some special very tasty, soft, low-fat treats used to disguise tablets for the second lot of antibiotics, but she quickly spat those out! So i reverted to the pate, but it wasn’t good enough to disguise three quarters of an antibiotic tablet. Brie seems to do the trick, though!I always found liver pate could disguise pills very well
She’s going in for the planned scan at 8.30 tomorrow, so I think I just have to wait until then. It’s not ideal, but as scans are done on Tuesdays and none of the other tests except the urine sample have pinpointed anything definite it seems the only way forward. I hope the painkillers are helping, but I’m not sure. She’s been lying in the hall so far today, apart from going into the garden a couple of times. She usually waits in the hall or on the landing in the mornings - as if she’s hoping someone will come to the door.Although Wispa is slightly improved, you say she isn't back to normal, if it was me, I would take her back to the vet, there might be something they are missing, or at least you could get some reassurance that she is heading in the right direction.
That is wonderful. Must lessen the worry a little for you Carol xxassured me that she’ll be waiting for us in the morning and will stay with Wispa,
