A very agitated Bear - and effects of Suprelorin

The same bitch is back in season. Our dog walkers are keeping them apart, but the dog in season is still being booked in for group walks. today two dog walkers were in the same area but walking in completely different fields. Bear sniffed her out and raced across a field and a half to get to her. thank goodness no roads in between. Sigh.
Fortunately he wasn't round her long enough to be upset by it today.
Implant on Friday....

How often get this bitch in season….? From the start of this thread early may it is a bit too soon don’t you think? Out first lab was a bitch and had her season also very soon one after the other that we decided to spay her…..Otherwise a intact male lab who lived one street away would have been anorexic…..

That doesn’t make the reaction of bear less difficult! Glad you have the appoint for Friday!!

I thought it was too - it's possible it is another dog reading the text I got yesterday but it did sound today like it was the same one.
Poor Bear does she live very close by?
Not sure , local within a few miles as all the dogs are in Nuneaton and it's a small ish town, but not round the corner or anything.
I'm surprised a dog walker would take a dog in season! Seems risky!
I thought so too. you would at least book in a solo walk, I would think? But then if fifteen other dogs don't have an issue, and Bear does, then it's really my dog with the problem, I guess?

Be prepared for this to get a lot worse after his implant for approx three weeks before his sexually driven behaviour switches off. This is due to a testosterone surge.

I would really consider having a dog walker right now, bitches in season are really have a negative impact. Maybe they could come round and think about calming enrichment in the garden. Or just take him out early in the morning and later in the evening.

Well, fortunately from this Friday OH will be doing the walking on all weekdays except Wednesday, ( he finishes work for the summer at least) and I might even review the Wednesday walk for a couple of weeks if Bear seems worse than usual after the implant. So only another couple of days. He'll be going out mostly in the early mornings with him I think. We do the other enrichment with him anyway, in the mornings / evenings and I often walk Monty on his own too - it's just tricky fitting it in with us both working full time.

Well Bear has been a brave little boy and had the implant, a slightly alarming puncture wound but seems his usual happy self. Just for info, I was pleasantly surprised at the cost, £80 including the consult fee, I was expecting double that. We've gone for the six month option, the twelve month was available too, but we'll see how it goes for now.
