Bloody dog! So last night I am singing his praises about what a wonderful dog he is.. so obedient... so responsive.
I get up this morning to absolute carnage

he’s chewed OHs glasses to bits (had to be other half’s didn’t it? So I have to suffer the lecture), Chewed one of my work shoes (my fault and hadn’t put them away!) plus 2 random letters that he’s shredded and had a good munch on the buttons of the remote control.
Take him for a walk to a woods near us... we have been there LOADS... never had an issue... it’s pouring with rain... I let him off and he is just gone. Literally in 5 seconds he’s out of sight. No warning, no nothing... I debate doing a recall as it’s a enclosed wood, no one in sight and I’m fairly sure he’s caught the scent of one of the many many squirrels... after a few minutes (maybe 90 seconds) he comes bombing back.... tail wagging so fast it’s a blur..... charges past me and chases another one... again I waited (such a difficult call, do you risk a recall fail or allow the chase!)... this time I spotted him and blew the whistle.... he stopped and ran straight back to me, threw his ball as a reward... then the shit went again! Squirrels appear to be a popular chase with him (oh good!)
We had a lovely 30 minute bomb about, he never went out of sight after the first time but loved chasing the squirrels (we saw over 30 in a 30 minute walk to highlight just how many there were!)
Also saw 4 dogs and he didn’t give any of them even a second glance so that’s good!
Any advise re the squirrels? I don’t avtually have an issue with him chasing them but don’t want to encourage the bombing off without permission... am I better off reinforcing it with making him get permission to chase them or is it better to not allow the chase at all?
