    Shampoo suggesstions?

I don't wash my gang as a matter of course. I can't remember the last time I washed any of them other than Bella. I don't even get them wet, they just don't smell bad, other than Miss Poopybum

New puppy Jeeves - sleeping problem

Another unneutered male here. Shadow is 7 and one of our bitches going through cycles as if she's entire, due to a likely retained ovarian fragment. She acts as if she's in season, and becomes very flirty with him. He's not really bothered much at all. Some dogs would be beside themselves and...

What’s the best way to deal with barking?

If you have the opportunity, you can have someone help you out by knocking on your door when you know they're going to (and not need to come in!) or whatever Neo's trigger(s) is(are). Knock, treat, repeat. He'll get smart to it pretty quickly, however, and know that it's a training session...

What’s the best way to deal with barking?

I taught one of my dogs to bark on cue. I did it by knocking on the door and capturing the bark then adding a cue. It had zero impact on his alert barking, as it’s not a “real” bark. When he’s alert barking, it’s because he’s reacting to a potential threat and trying to scare it away. And, since...

When to start thinking about puppies

I’m not sure I could manage a dogless home. Going from the routine of walking and feeding and cuddling and playing to nothing sounds terrible. My sister always has one dog at a time and I know she really struggles with those things when she loses one. On the other hand, it can be a lot to...

    Shampoo suggesstions?

No, don’t use baby shampoo, it has a different pH. For Bella’s bum, I use a sensitive green tea shampoo from Bellydog. https://bellydog.com/collections/wash She doesn’t suffer from allergies, but is washed more frequently than I’d like which is why I chose a sensitive one.

What’s the best way to deal with barking?

My twins can alert bark when we're in Andorra, as we live in an apartment there and you can imagine that means a lot of strange noises in the building. I have had great success with giving them an unconditional treat scatter when it happens. I'm not rewarding the barking - they're not barking in...

    Medicating anxious dogs

Good luck with the Clomicalm. I hated it for Willow, it gave her real swings in mood, the timing had to be spot on for it to be effective, and she seemed to have awful crashes. But, different drugs work for different dogs, so here's to hoping it's good for Shamas.

    Arthritis medication

Talia has been started on Galliprant today, so we're waiting to see how she does with that. I've asked Natalie to ask her vet about Librela, too, otherwise we'll wait to take her to our vet when we're back.

    Teaching Hold

That was quick... here... Podcast #95: Behavior Chains for Practical Purposes with Morten Egtvedt | Hannah Branigan – Wonderpups Training I found this SO useful! To summarise it, let's say you're learning a poem or piece of Shakespeare like you had to at school. Everyone had to do that, right...

Back chain! Train the "out" first, then work from there. Disassociate it from the retrieving chain to start off with. Hannah Brannigan has an excellent podcast episode on back chaining, let me go find it....

Nisha and Talía (Negreta and Lulú).... a journey.

Talía is still with N and her gang. We had an emergency vet trip with her with a gastric torsion which meant an overnight stay, and since then she’s picked up some sort of bladder infection, so she’s on ABs for that. She also has a slight limp first thing, so we need to get that assessed, though...

    Beautiful Bella

I'm not sure how I missed this reply back in early December, but Bella is infinitely grateful that I did :giggl: Thanks for asking, she's doing great! Laying asleep next to me on a bed, snoring her little head off right now. I'm going to have to get her a jacket because when it snows heavily...

    Surgery tomorrow

Sounds like she's doing really well. It reminds me of how Ginny ran up the stairs the day after her amputation. We were then stuck up there for the rest of the day until J came home because I didn't want to carry her down in case I fell. They like to worry us, these animals!!
