    Foolhardy...?

Work on a 'settle' @Shaz82 and practice in different places. It does get better ?. I always have a chew for Juno with me as well so when our lunch arrives, she gets hers. I also have her travel water bowl and a bottle of water for if we're in a pub garden so we don't have to hunt for a drink of...

Spencer - Guide Dog In Training 🐾

Really interesting @Boogie and very similar to how I start crate training :)

    Relaxation protocol.

Hey 2 days on one stage is nothing :) Our dogs don't know that someone, somewhere decided that they should extend each task on a daily basis. Learning doesn't work like that, particularly if you're introducing lots of new elements. Each task should end on a positive, even if it means going back...

    Relaxation protocol.

That's reassuring but remember on some tasks you may not be able to get to the level stated. Dogs learn at different rates and you want to train for success every time :)

    Relaxation protocol.

Although I like the relaxation protocol I think it's important to remember that you might have to build up to the numbers quitedin each of the tasks. It is a lot to expect your dog to stay still for a count of say 20 when you haven'tpracticedto get to that level. Also it can take a lot of...

    New Harness

Hmm. Personally I would be happy with the fit of the straps behind the elbows/armpits., butnothappy with the strap across the chest which looms as if it will inhibit movement from the shoulder. Sorry ..

    Cold Coats.

An interesting study @Oberon . I have a problem with the cold coats anyway. My thought process runs so etching lije - If I'm not I could put on a cold coat (one that has been placed in the freezer/soaked in icy water for example). It will make me feel cooler but I might start to feel...

    The vets again !!!

It might be worth a visit to the other vets @Jennifer , just as a precaution. It might even be better for the boys - different clinic, people etc so no history in the location. Couldn't guarantee they would be better but you never know x

    The vets again !!!

You really should complain. You should have a record of your calls available to quote regardless of whether it was mobile or landline calls. I don't think anyone expects to have to make an appointment to receive test results on something like a urine specimen. The lack of a return call points to...

    New Health Standards

Unfortunately you only have to look in puppy ads to see the lack of testing in many litters of pups - and that includes KC Accredited Breeders :( . The KC only require hips and a current eye certificate though. Not overly keen on this restriction but I guess it does help to maintain standards...

    Relaxation protocol.

Ho How do you reset the behaviour to continue training? I use a treat to the side to remove from position to train again having 'changed the picture' .

Really don’t know what to do (about lunging on lead) - BUT I DO NOW!!

I don't subscribe to the 'he/she will grow out of it' school of thought. I see too many clients who thought their dog would grow out of z behaviour. A behaviour only becomes reinforced each and every time it is practiced- regardless of whether we rdgard it ia good or bad behaviour. I would...

    The vets again !!!

I was going to like your post @Jennifer but that didn't seem right as you are having such a hard time with your vet practice. It really is not acceptable. Thank heavens for the help line on your insurance. At least it gives you a little peace of mind over the weekend. A phone call for Hillary on...

    New Health Standards

This popped up on my FB page late last night. An interesting new scheme which could improve general health if our beloved breed, but only effective if it gets to the general puppy buying public. Labrador Breed Council - Health News
