    Coffi Lab

I've only known two Setters and both of them were too stupid for words. Our son has a Jack Russell (Leo) who is a delightful dog who wants to join in everything. He's really friendly with people and other dogs but can never be trusted off lead.

    Coffi Lab

Are they inherently crazy or have they been allowed to develop that way? Ive always felt that its a combination of nature and nurture which sets the character of the adult dog. We tend to go for the quieter dogs in a litter and raise them in a calm environment. It seems to work for us as...

    Coffi Lab

I think we'd both love another Lab. We understand them and their curious little ways. We have to be realistic. In ten years time we may not be able to give a Lab the exercise it needs. We're going for less demanding breeds so we can meet the exercise needs of our next dog. Also, we want a...

    Coffi Lab

Today I had my face washed by an 18 month old black Lab. We were at the next table so we naturally started chatting. The couple had owned Labs before and we compared notes about their characters and habits. I think they won the ‘whats the most revolting thing your dog has done’ contest. One...

    Coffi Lab

The litters are due in the first half of March. We have fingers crossed that there will be enough healthy puppies to satisfy everyone on the list.

    Coffi Lab

We had a great visit to Coffi Lab this morning. Our favourite black Lab puppy was there, along with several doodles and smaller dogs. There was a very well behaved greyhound at the next table and a really chilled goldie near the door. The highlight was a 12-year-old yellow Lab who was a...

    Casper

Ruth and I are really sorry to hear about Casper. He was a lovely lad, and we have many memories of him from the SW pack walks.

LOL. We’re waiting on news about a litter of Cockerpoos. I we’re successful then trips to the Coffi Lab will be part of its socialising.

    Coffi Lab

While we're between dogs OH and I have been visiting Coffi Lab in Monmouth for our elevenses. The Coffi Lab theme is a coffee shop which is built around dog friendliness, so they have dog drinks and snacks on the menu as well as human ones. The aisles are wide so there is space for the dogs to...

    Adopting a Labrador

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve tended to look at local centres as travelling is an issue at the moment. I‘ll have a look at Many Tears and filter for this area to see what turns up.

    Adopting a Labrador

That reminds me of Holly’s littermates. Some hurled themselves at us. Holly held back until the fuss finished then had our undivided attention. Smart dog. I think we’ll take the same approach this time.

    Adopting a Labrador

Its been a while so I thought I'd update folks on our dog hunt. Our search for a low/medium energy dog around the rehoming sites has produced nothing so far. The choices seem to be: 1. Old dogs. We couldn't face taking on a dog towards the end of its life. It sounds selfish but we have to be...

    Holly’s legacy

Its almost a year since we lost Holly. After she died Ruth and I decided that we’d donate future royalties from her two books to dog charities. Last night we donated the 2023 royalties to Forest of Dean Dog Rescue. They foster and rehome dogs who are abandoned in the Forest, including bitches...

    Adopting a Labrador

We feel the same about the Springador. It might be a bit too much for me now. An older Lab or a less demanding dog are the likely options. The news is reporting a possible surge in surrendered or abandoned dogs after Christmas. We'll be watching closely to see if one's a good match for us...

    Adopting a Labrador

I'll leave being fabulous to Ruth. She's better at it than me!

    Adopting a Labrador

I was looking at the adoption sites today and came across a 'Springador'. I imagine that the energy of a springer combined with the intelligence of a Labrador could be a handful. I'm not sure that we could cope with that combination of traits.

How did you choose your dog’s name?

Like many, we made a list of possible names but none of them resonated. When we picked Holly up, just before Christmas, her little puppy teeth were prickly like holly leaves. The name stuck.

Thank you. We really miss the walks, playtimes and fun of having a dog.

    Adopting a Labrador

We’ve discussed other dogs a lot over the last couple of months. As things stand a large, strong, energetic dog would be too much. We looked at breeds and are homing in on Cavapoo or similar for adoption or as a puppy. We‘re also watching the local rehoming centres to see if anything...

    Adopting a Labrador

GP has been fairly thorough. He’s done full bloods which showed up normal on all indicators including B12. He’s even rung me at home (without an appointment) just to check how I am.
