    Updates on Mas.

What an absolutely horrid time you’ve been having. I’m so sorry about Mas and all his stomach problems, these dogs really do worry us when they look so dreadfully ill. So so pleased that it looks like he’s going to get better and be your happy loving dog again. I’ve been following very closely...

    Perfect Fit Harness

I’ve just found an email of my original order from April 2015! He was born jan 2015 so would have been 12/13 weeks ish when I go the first perfect fit harness. I bought medium top, small front and medium girth. 20 mm width. Hope that helps. X

    Perfect Fit Harness

Oh gosh just seen this! I’m not sure what size and will have to go and see if I still have the first harness. I’m sure I started with a tiny mesh harness as a tiny pup as Boogie suggests.

    Washing dogs?

Reading the thread about vanilla bean this morning and pondering about the problems, I was wondering how many people here regularly wash their dogs. I thought it would be interesting to do a poll and see the results.

    Lights for dogs

Mr P takes the dogs out at night and we have light up collars. They have lasted now for 3 years but he said they can’t always be seen from some angles. He searched the Internet and found reflective leg bands for them. They wrap around their legs and close with Velcro, very cheap and very...

    Habituation vs Sensitisation..

Well, now you know that if you are on that shoot, you might have to deal with a goose! I don’t see how if it’s shot, giving it a whack on the back of the head to speed up the process of dying is any thing but humane?

    Habituation vs Sensitisation..

I think I wrote my post without really being clear about what we were talking about. Of course, the dogs are not sent without being cued to retrieve , some of the dogs were struggling with picking up the birds that were still definitely alive. Their hesitation allowed the bird to get up and leg...

    Habituation vs Sensitisation..

We had a very interesting conversation about this when training on Thursday. It was raining hard so we were looking for something to do whilst waiting for it to stop. We ended up looking up the definitions of the words so that we all understood exactly what we were talking about. It came out...

    A dummy thread!

Recently, I think it was snow bunny, wrote that there was not much difference in dummies but I have found some much better than others and thought I would let you know my experiences. I have a dog who occasionally gets a little overexcited and hard mouthed and some dummies tolerate the rough...

    IMDT - I passed!

I love this! Not only is it relevant but it also encapsulates how training dogs should be!

The Pig meets Shot and Game

Bing is 4 in January. We are much better this year compared to last. I have been working on a stop whistle when we see/flush the birds. I have been going close to the pheasant pens and taking his tea. Last year all I could manage was for him to give me eye contact in the presence of the...

The Pig meets Shot and Game

We have a selection of found and hunted in that picture. The shoot comes up one field from the house and he often finds birds that they have missed. We are overrun with game and at any time we probably have 10 or so in our country garden. I do not walk the dogs directly from the house now until...

The Pig meets Shot and Game

Well if I took them straight away from him he would not bring them to me! I swop them for something good, otherwise I would have the behaviour that we started with, which was growling and resource guarding any thing that he found!! At the beginning I had to lasso him as he wasn’t going to let...

The Pig meets Shot and Game

I need to come and join this thread as I have huge problems with Bing hunting. I’ve had 4 Labradors at this house but I’ve never had such problems before this. Some dogs are really tricky, he’s even learnt to open the French doors when he sees birds in the garden! And it’s not just birds...

    Perfect Fit Harness

Do you know that the perfect fit people are super helpful? I found it tricky to work out and emailed them the measurements and a pic of the dog and they worked it all out for me. Bing has always had a perfect fit harness from a puppy, and from 10 weeks to 31kg has only had two sizes of...

The right trainer for you but the wrong trainer for your dog?

Yes, absolutely it's a lottery -- I think I'm getting to the point were I could describe exactly the trainer I would like, with the good bits of all those I have tried! It's seems like @Plum's mum has struck lucky! I have found a trainer that I like, the classes are good with the behaviours...

The right trainer for you but the wrong trainer for your dog?

Very interesting to hear everyone’s different experiences. The point I was trying to make is that what suits you may not suit your dog! I like the positive training with a lot of understanding of motive and positive reinforcement but the pace of the class doesn’t suit Diesel. I’m not sure...
