Angel. Born June 30th.

I think it's going well. It's been roughly 6 weeks to get to this point.

Angel doesn't take shamas warnings seriously often, as he's mostly verbal and we have to intervene when he gets jumped on. When he does finally go physical she screams and cowers, but is back to licking his chin within a minute. She's got the submissive chin lick down to an art form.

He's never actually bitten, but a physical reprimand makes it look like he will. He closes his jaws on her and pins her for a second before letting her up to apologize.

He's a good babysitter too.....often he rushes her to tell her drop it before we reach her. Sometimes if it's big enough, like a food wrapper from the trash, he will just walk over and take it. Then he gives it to me to pitch.

He's learning to jump on the bed for peace and quiet

Goodness if it's not one thing....

Today we had to run to the vet because Angel came into the house with a wasp attached to her muzzle. We killed it, and removed the stinger but she quickly started looking tired, and whiney. A little wheeze. Gave her an antihistamine shot and she is better now.

Whilst there, I brought up the swelling on her hip after her vaccination last Monday. I think she'll get anti-inflammatory before the next dose. 🤔

She's 31.7lbs Today.

Well, Angel is now big enough to use Shamas' route onto my big bed. I have a padded bench beside the bed so he doesn't strain himself getting up or down. On the one hand, I didn't really want her on my bed but on the other....she's leaving Shamas alone in favor of cuddling down into our blankets.

We had her and Shamas seperated by multiple gates for almost two weeks due to his stress and anxiety...but he's starting to push through gates to get to her, so we let them together as long as he's tolerant of her. He gets how the gates work, and either wags his tail when I close them...or puts himself in the way long enough for her to scoot through.

We saw the breeders the other day. Took the dogs to work to meet Amanda(Angel's owner) and the husband was waiting for the wife to finish. He says all the females in the litter are tall and lanky, whereas all the males are buff like Tenessee. He says Angell looks like Sierra(the mother) only brown. Not sure if that means she won't get as big as we think? Sierra's only 55lb and stands at my knee. She's shephard, rottie lab. Looks like there's doberman too, from her face. I have been watching her growth patterns, and she's right on track on the low end of Dane scales. To me, she LOOKS like a Dane, but with a soft face. She'd got square, broad shoulders, deep chest, long, clumsy legs. Her neck is long and thin, and her skull is squared off. Then she tapers down into her pretty soft muzzle.

when I got her, I saw Dane/Corso. Now I see Dane/Shephard

I need to work on introducing her to tall men in all black. She barked last night, and her hackles went up. but at the same time, her tail went mad when they talked to her. So if I ask them to drop to one knee for her next time they pass...she can give them a good sniff and get some petting.

She's also reacting negatively towards homeless people. but that may be our fault. We are reacting negatively to homeless people after what they did to our fence, and everything that happened afterwards. Shamas is starting to behave more like Shamas now....but his journeys out of the house are limited and controlled to avoid stressors

also noticing some pretty stressful separation anxiety when Amanda leaves for work. I'm going to take a page from Victoria Stilwell, and have her go through her routine with me, to see if I can catch the stress cue. Because she doesn't throw fits when we go. Then again, when I go, my dog huffs and lays down to wait.

I told her if we can't pin down the solution, we'll call on the behaviorist for help. It's my understanding that the potential for separation anxiety is in the breed profile of 3/5 parts of her breed makeup with Danes and Shephards developing a severe case if it's not addressed...

Angel starts puppy classes today :)

I need to discuss food with the vet---She and Shamas keep swapping food and he's packing pounds fast.

If she were entirely mine...I'd be leaving the food down only for short periods, and pulling it up when I open gates. That's what I do when her owner is not home. But she's not my dog, and her owner keeps leaving her food on the floor...and letting her out without warning me, while Shas' food is down.

So of course, both dogs run for the other dogs' bowls. I moved Shamas to a higher quality all life stages--bought with the puppy's needs in mind..

I plan to seek out a food for her that won't cause so much weight gain for him. He's up over 75lbs now.

Plus...she has poops almost too big for poops bags.....which makes me wonder if there's more in that food than she needs, and we're buying expensive poop? Shamas doesn't poop that big...his are usually easy to pick up. Angel's poop's look like a 120lb dog dropped them

If Shamas' food is suitable ALS for large breed puppy, you could put them on the same food. If she is frequently getting into his food and eating her own, then that might explain the poops...

Shamas is all life stages. And fish based, as I was advised against red meat if the puppy was eating from his bowl. I asked for help picking something with consideration for the fact that she might be eating as much as 20% of his food on a daily basis.

I know one brand has a food thats good for everyone in the house including puppies.....I need to do my research again. It came up when searching best foods for mastiff puppies.

Right now she's on orijin large breed puppy. And prefers his food. Which is Performatrin for skin and stomach...and pulsar all life stage but it's grain free and the vet prefers we avoid grain free.

Interesting - I think orijen puppy only comes grain free? Could be that - many people in dog food groups I follow comment on orijen/acana being very rich.

You can see how rich it is as you pour it in the bowl. She seems to prefer the chicken and rice of the performatrin. I think they might have a puppy version but not a large breed.
