Harleys arthritis

Poor Harley and poor you, it's always so distressing when our dogs aren't well. Apparently there has been a sickness and diarrhoea bug going around dogs locally here ( Joy seems to have avoided it so far🤞) and I was wondering if it might be the same in your area too. Several dogs have been really quite poorly with it and completely off their food for several days, but they have all recovered well.
I do hope she's better soon. Sending:hug::hug::hug:and:thelambiesarecoming::thelambiesarecoming::thelambiesarecoming:

Is she drinking @Naya?
Luckily that is the one thing she is doing, but only water. I tried the water from the boiled fish and water from the rice, but she refused them.
In the past half an hour we managed to convince her to eat some scrambled egg. She only had a few small bits, but its progress!

I haven’t seen anything on local dog Facebook pages and the vets said the pets that they had seen over the past few days were because they ate chocolate/ xmas puds or similar.

I’m so sorry. Poor Harley and poor you. I find shredded roast chicken in lots of water is never refused.

Is the diarrhea pure blood or “raspberry jam”? When Snowie had the latter, it was HGE—haemorrhagic gastroenteritis. It took months to get over. The shredded chicken was the only thing that kept it improving. Other foods and he went backwards. Also kefir for probiotics was really helpful.

I hope the blood tests give some insight.

Oh no! How terribly worrying for you all, poor Harley, really hope the little bit of scrambled egg is a tiny sign of improvement

Oh @Naya, there has been a similar bug amongst dogs in this area, think it is on the wane now, but apparently it was very important to get the dog straight to the vet, a friend's dog had it and has made a good recovery. Have you tried tinned pumpkin? Though I guess at the moment Harley just doesn't want to eat. Often if you warm the food slightly that encourages them.

Thanks all. We’ve tried other food tonight that she usually begs for - toast, chicken breast, fish and even nuts which she usually goes mad for……no interest at all - she turns her head away and looks down at the floor - she looks sheepish. She keeps wanting to go stand in the garden even when it’s raining. She gets just onto the grass, head looking down and just stands there. She looks like she might fall over if she moved. It’s really worrying to be honest.

Poor sweet girl, hopefully after a bit more rest and with the meds helping coat her tummy she will start to get an appetite back. It’s hard for us to eat when we have bad tummy bugs too, so hopefully that’s all it is. That’s great she is drinking though, and maybe she will eat a bit more scrambled eggs in a bit. When Hugo had his bright red blood/diarrhea a preprobiotic really helped, worked much better than just a probiotic. May be worth a try if you haven’t already.  :thelambiesarecoming:

I am so so sorry @Naya. I can only imagine how worried you must be. Luckily she is she drinking. It could be so many things. I remember when Hunter was really ill and popped blood he didn't eat for 2 days. Blood work also came back with no issues. I hope she starts to eat something substantial . Just keep tryingi to tempt her with tasty titbits. I hope you both get a good night's rest :thelambiesarecoming:

Can you get any tinned Pumpkin Puree from Sainsbury or Waitrose, it works when Fred is ill.

Poor Harley. And poor you, Naya.

Good thinking with the scrambled eggs - Harv will quite often eat that when nothing else will do. Hopefully, the meds will kick in soon and she'll begin to feel like eating other things (as others have said, some nasty bugs are going around at the moment).

Goodness @Naya, I'm so sorry to read about darling Harley being so ill, I really am. Little wonder you are so worried.

Sounds like scrambled egg a good move - once when Cass was off colour, no where near as ill as Harley sounds, the vet suggested that with good effect. Just the egg, nothing with it.

If she drinking that is good. xx

What kind of night have you had?

I've had this type of thing with Rory a few times now. Often it's been his colitis and related issues, but last time it was a bug which gave him d&v and bleeding from his bum.. he had temp and was lethargic and clearly hurting. We did the usually things like pro kolin bland foods and anti biotics. I got some bone broth and just fed white skinless bones fish in tiny amounts, but honestly give her anything she wants. Rory lost 4.5 kgs in one of his attacks over 5 weeks and like Harley would just stand looking out of it. If she doesn't improve it could well be other things and we ended up getting Rory an u/s. This was clear and we just treat him carefully and he started to eat and improve. The last bug took a while but I would give your vet a call if she's not improving or starting to eat. We have like some of the other posters had a few dogs with gastric bugs round here. I sorry she's so unwell, it so hard when they feel like this♥ I'd just add that we do often have to use an antibiotic for Rory which does help, the vet let me in incase he has a fare up.its Metrocare

We’ve had an up and down night. She had 1 small mouthful of boiled rice this morning. She’s refusing everything else we offer still. She is still pooing blood - it’s not been tested at the minute @Jelinga . She seems a bit more alert today, but not by much - she wagged her tail when my OH got up.
I will pop out and get some pumpkin - good idea @Cath
