Homer being sick

I’m so sorry to hear this new update, I can imagine the defeat and frustration you’re feeling. Really hope an answer comes asap.

From my experience with regurgitation, which isn’t much, but Axel had it off and on for months. His esophagus was irritated so he kept regurgitating, and he would throw up 11 times each time within an hours time to the point it was just bile and blood coming up. We were given meds that coated his esophagus and tummy which helped some. It finally stopped coincidentally when we had to fast him for 24 hours and we had a scope done of his esophagus and tummy, nothing was found but some old scarring, but it never happened again. I know there are no answers in there but maybe he’s just a bit irritated from the first retching, now it’s sensitive and triggered? Some meds to coat his esophagus to help irritation maybe? Sorry, I’m just trying to suggest anything for you guys in hopes just a quick easy fix

Thanks, @Kelsey&Axel that makes some sense to me. He was better for about a week after each surgery. They’ve suggested raising his food bowl so I’ve emptied his toys into a bag and using his toy box upside down for now. It’s almost the correct height, might still be a bit low. I know you can get special stands for their bowls. He is on Omeprazole to help his oesophagus.

I’ve just hand fed him spoonfuls of his tinned food while he was sitting upright in front of me. Like you would with training treats. He wouldn’t touch his soaked kibble In his bowl on his box.

Poor love bug, I do hope the Omeprazole helps and the raised dish. At least he is eating the tinned food, that will help keep him hydrated as well. Wish I could give you both a big hug

At his check up at the local vet on Wednesday he was given a dose of Ondansetron a milder anti nausea medication. He had a antisickness injection when he was started being sick a week after his first surgery he had bad stomach pains so we went for something milder this time. He's adjusted well to his raised bowl. He had some signs of nausea last night but nothing came up.
He had his first post op off lead walk and swim this morning.

Homer is at the specialist vet having a Fluoroscopy. They will X-ray him as he swallows to look at how his oesophagus muscles contract to move food through to his stomach. They are looking at mega oesophagas to either treat or to rule out and then look into gastrointestinal diseases.
