Maxx is unwell

We only have our house cleaner look after Snowie. We trust her completely to look after Snowie and ensure he’s 100% safe. And he loves her. And of course… being our cleaner, none of the embarrassment factor cos she knows our house at its dirtiest!! In fact, after every time we’re away, we come back to a spring cleaned house!!

We are, however, needing to be away over Easter for a wedding, and she definitely won’t be available. So… we will be in the same boat, trying to figure out who is trustworthy enough to look after Snowie… An alternative is to do a road trip and take him with. Although he’ll have to be alone for a few hours in a strange b&b while we’re at the wedding, so not sure we’ll go this route…

Are these kennels the usual ones he has been before? He has always seemed happy there, so perhaps this is just a one off blip and he would be fine in the future?
He always stays here, every review is great and he loves it. Every time he drags the poor person assigned to take him from reception out through the swing doors to where the other dogs are. However this will be 6 weeks. For our last big trip in 2019 we took him to a new place that was more free roaming and that was a mistake. He went in without an ounce of aggression and came out being a bit snappy with certain types of dogs. We assume he got picked on and had to defend himself....not enough supervision perhaps

Dilemma. Thanks for all of your good wishes and advice. I'm going to push the housesitter or see if we can find someone experienced who will take him into their home. We are willing to pay plenty because that's what the kennel costs as we pay for the highest amount of supervised play time.

It’s so tough to find doggie care. Where I live there’s no such thing as dog sitters or dog walkers. We had a good kennel that Simba liked going to and the people lived him but once we had our daughter living in our condo in the city we have relied on her to take care of Simba. He is happy there and she takes good care of him, although he doesn’t get as many walks.
We will be away for about 6-7 weeks this spring for our Camino holiday. Our daughter and son have said they can look after Simba, so am going to propose that Sarah (daughter) take him for two weeks, Luke (son) brings him back to our place for a week (he works from home so that’s possible for him), then back to the city for two weeks with Sarah and then back home with Luke for a week and then back to the city for the remaining days. That way they each have a break from dog-sitting and as well we get someone here at the house to look after it a bit. Plus Simba gets a chance to run around the yard and not always be on the leash. I’m going to propose the plan soon and hopefully this, or something like it, will work. I will still have to get some friends to pop into the house during those times when Luke isn’t here, for insurance purposes, but it’s easier to do that for two week chunks than for the whole time, which is a lot to ask of people.

Maxx threw up again this afternoon and is still quiet and listless. Still very very interested in food. I think he needs antibiotics but either way our vet is back on Friday so we'll take him

He's not a cuddly dog but he jumped on the couch between us tonight and put his head in my lap for quite a while

Oh Maxx baby, poor little sausage must be feeling rough and needing his cuddles. It’s a good sign he’s still ravenous (unless that’s a typo), long may that continue. I guess fluids are really important with vomming so maybe some extra wet food might help too. I hope his tummy settles soon and you get to see your vet on Friday x

Poor Maxx threw up again yesterday afternoon and again this morning. He hasn't done a poo since yesterday morning so our vet kindly squeezed us in today at 3pm. Steve had a good chat to the vet nurse (the other vet simply didn't seem to care enough to ask any questions) and she said it probably isn't a bug because he would have diarrhea and be vomiting more often. The vet will give him a thorough check up today and it's looking likely he will need an ultrasound
