I was listening earlier about lockdown and Christmas market cancellation in Munich.
Thinking you might be better in Italy @Emily_Babbelhund , but how are numbers where you are, do you know?
That was news to me about Munich, Jac. I had a look at Regensburg and the local news says they aren't cancelling...so far. It would be a massive blow financially just as last year was. Worse with two years in a row, I imagine. Regensburg loves to flip Munich the bird (just a TAD of competition there) so unless the federal government orders a lockdown, I imagine they will do everything possible to keep open this year.

I've not found any comparable numbers between Florence or Venice and Regensburg in a quick search. At this point, I'm reserved in Regensburg from 28 November, so planning on going back. I think even if the numbers are higher there than here, I'd probably still go for financial reasons and also better healthcare there. Plus if I stay in Italy for December, I'm probably stuck here as my car doesn't do winter, specifically the Brenner Pass over the Alps in winter...and I don't want to get cut off from my Cornwall trip. That was probably way TMI, right? 😁

TL:DR - yeah, probably going to head 'home' to Germany and hope for the best, but I will keep an eye on it - thanks for the alert.

Carbon has such an expressive face @Emily_Babbelhund, now I understand it is a with desire for you to produce that treat!
Yeah, I didn't realise how miserable he looked until I saw the photos when I got home. My big camera has a viewfinder that I can adjust for my poor eyesight, but my new phone is just point and shoot, so I don't see the images clearly until I get home and can put them into my computer. I think tomorrow that I'll feed him more in the morning, but that we'll also spend part of the day up in the pine forest above town. Brogan used to love it up there - much more chilled than the city, which is pretty chaotic. That should help him, because he seems stressed + tired in those photos, poor gentleman.

I love the photo of the man smiling at Carbon as Carbon is being photographed and of Carbon posing with the two masked Police
I like those two! The police officers came up to me when I was taking the first photo and asked to pet Carbon, and I was brave enough to ask for a photo with them. They were so nice!

Thanks for sharing the videos. Loved hearing the sounds and seeing the activity. I was there eons ago, and yet it all looks the same!! I love that about well-preserved historical cities.

Carbon is just gorgeous! What a neat sit!

I think that's part of the appeal - it's like visiting a dear old friend who magically doesn't age. Sure, certain things will change - the shops, seasonal decorations, the type of traffic - but at heart it's the same. I lived in the centre right off of Piazza Signoria for six months when I was learning Italian and I like visiting my old walking routes when I'm here and as you say - it all looks the same, even if I don't. It's very comforting somehow.

Florence is also a very young city, if that makes sense. Tons of chaotic energy and activity, something always going on and lots of noise. Venice is the opposite - genteelly dying, silent and slow as molasses. I like going directly from one place to the other. The tourist equivalent of riding one of those amusement park rides that gives you whiplash. 😁

I got a sense of that from your videos. Also I notice how slim people look in Florence.
I liked the lack of traffic and just the voices of people and noticed how well they walk. I get intrigued when I see a person, have the quickest glimpse of their life, will never, ever see them again. Carbon was the centre of attention by the passers by :giggle:
