Unwell again

Like @Atemas I’m very rigid with what I feed my dogs. Probably neurotically so. :wasntme: I have been ever since Murphy got very bad with colitis which was nearly 20 years ago now. He was put on a sensitivity diet and probiotics and I decided if he was on a special diet I should cut out the extras like sausages, left overs etc. He didn’t have a bout of colitis again. Since then my dogs have only had their food. I use kibble as treats with the occasional special treat as a jackpot reward. Some might think it’s mean or excessive but I know what a difference it made restricting Murphy’s diet and I’d rather not feed my dogs something that could trigger colitis. Murphy first got colitis after eating roast beef ! Something you wouldn’t think would upset a dog. I’m not saying you shouldn’t give Hugo lots of lovely treats but maybe restrict his diet more for a while so his digestive system can settle and mature. It’s just a thought.

Yes, I’ll have to take a step back. I’ve only introduced raspberries, broccoli and lettuce at this point, and really a very tiny amount, and only one a day and not every day. Yesterday he had broccoli which he’s been fine with before, but I did give him a bit more, but still truly a tiny amount, like the size of my pinky finger at most, as I was still being cautious.

He unfortunately had one cow pie while I was at work. I’m home now and just fed him dinner. How much pumpkin should I give a day? I don’t want to give too much. Is it best to give it at every meal?

Funny little story from last night. My parents were over watching Hugo while I was at work, and my dad is the one who takes Hugo outside for bathroom breaks. Well, I told him if Hugo gets distracted outside to simply just say ‘go poopy!’ (In high pitched voice of course) well… my dad dead panned and looked me straight in the eye and said matter of factly, ‘I am NOT doing that’ my mom and I lost it🤣🤣🤣

Ugh so yesterday he had three great solid poos and no other issues. Now, the morning I go back to work, he has a massive loose poo followed by straight up diarrhea right after. No idea what to think now but of course I’m stressing as I leave for work in an hour now.

Oh no Kelsey that's so tough when you are about to leave for work - are your folks able to come round sooner rather than later?

They won’t be able to be here for 5-6 hours :( I would call in to work but we are so incredibly short staffed that I feel terrible calling in last minute. He’s acting happy and bright still. I hope he hasn’t developed an allergy to the food he’s been good on for a couple months now 😢

Oh @Kelsey , what a stressful thing. It sounds like you have to leave him so I’d leave some towels down, especially by the back door or wherever he goes to go outside, and hope for the best - if you have time, maybe give him a bit of scrambled egg to help bind him up?

I have to leave him in his crate unfortunately 😭 I removed his bed and put in towels. I gave him probiotic and pumpkin with his breakfast. I’ve never cooked scrambled eggs for dogs before, I’ll try that after work for him. Currently he is running around playing with Gizmo, throwing his toys about, running around with them. So definitely feeling himself… which is how he was with the food allergy. Only thing I can think of is maybe his training treats don’t suit him anymore, he had maybe five yesterday, they are tiny little low calorie training treats. But I hadn’t given him any of those since initially getting sick 5 days ago now, but reintroducing them yesterday even though very low quantity amount to what he usually gets… maybe triggered it to come back.

Are you feeding any chicken? Could the treats have chicken in? A lot do but hidden in the and other ingredients section. I found it was chicken that gave Rory his initial problem.

No, no chicken allowed for Hugo as he is definitely allergic to it. So anything I give him is scanned for it

What Treats are they?
I’ll have to check when I’m home. But they are the tiny soft low calorie training treats. He’s been totally good with them every day for 2 months though. Except the few I gave yesterday, one at a time just for bathroom breaks. So no more than five was given cuz a couple were just kibble in my mixed bag. But they were a bit stale.. had been sitting in a baggy for a few days as I had stopped giving them when he first was sick. So maybe that’s it.. I just figured he doesn’t chew anything anyways so being they were a bit stale I didn’t think would matter 😔maybe he had too much pumpkin yesterday.. too much fibre maybe.
