Meanwhile, in Spain, the storms hitting our area are pretty brutal. I’m glad we’re not there, albeit our house and land appears more protected than many. This is a before and after picture of the Ebro Delta, one of only three regions in Spain to have a Protected Designation of Origin for rice production. It’s also very important for wildlife. From Wikipedia:
In 1983 Spain designated a large part of the delta as a natural park. Ebro Delta Natural Park (Catalan: Parc Natural del Delta de l'Ebre, Spanish: Parque Natural del Delta del Ebro) has a total surface area of 7,802 hectares (19,280 acres) [2][11] The natural park has protected wetlands, beaches, marshes, salt pans, and estuaries that provide extensive habitats.[2]

The park is of international importance for eight of its plant species and 69 of its vertebrate fauna. It has some 95 breeding species of birds, is also very important for over 300 species of a wide range of transient and overwintering species, and serves as an essential stopover point for large numbers of migratory birds and waterfowl. The Ebro delta has the world's largest colony of Audouin's gulls. In 2006 it held a record number of more than 15,000 pairs

Good gracious! I did see a film of a dust storm in Australia on the TV, it looked very alarming. Sometimes we get a slight dusting of the Sahara desert here, but nothing like the dust you have had, looks like someone threw a bucket of mud over your car.

Hope you did not clean your car yesterday...but now you will have to clean it. Maybe Steve can do it for you whilst you are at work??? Nice clean car for when you get home..

As the stay-at-home person, Steve will clean my car....I hope anyway! Otherwise it will be brown forever as I don't 'do' car stuff. I've never even put petrol in a car.

It is ridiculously hot and humid and I'm actually staring longingly at that snow @snowbunny ! We both agreed that we wished we were back in the UK (with Maxx this time of course)

We can't afford to have the air con on all-day but I just vacuumed the house and I look like I've been for a swim (ick). So I thought sod it and closed up the house and put it on. Ahhhh the relief. Maxx and I are sitting in front of one of the units together.

A lovely calm walk this morning, both dog-wise and weather-wise. At one stage I could actually feel the warmth of the sun on my back. Colder and more windy now though, the gritters are out and sleet and snow are forecast over the Pennines. I am reminded of one of my favourite poems, 'But these things also' by Edward Thomas, in particular the last line:
And Spring's here, Winter's not gone.IMG_20200127_100946.jpgIMG_20200127_095534.jpg
