Weather

I think with the weather conditions that everyone is experiencing throughout the world, it brings home that you need to have a plan of action in case of these eventualities. We don't have flood contingencies because if we flood in either of our homes, then the apocalypse has come, but we do have plans for fire in Spain. We have several routes out of the campo, and we have an emergency pack in the safe, with all our important documents. It really is a case of grabbing that, sticking the dogs in the car and leaving by the safest route to get to the main road then, depending on the severity, either hanging around locally, or driving up to Andorra (or both - one of us would come back here with the dogs while the other stays in case there's anything that needs doing down there). We're lucky to have that option.

My sister's single-story home is right on the edge of a flood-prone area; she's recently had a few cases of water under her house, and slightly damaging her flooring from underneath, but nothing too bad. She is also lucky in that she lives only a mile or so from our parents, so when the potential for flooding becomes bad, she bundles up her dog and takes him there.

For people with nowhere obvious to go, it must be a real worry, but also even more important to have a plan.

We don't have to worry about the river bursting its banks as we're too high up but I never thought I would live in a time, when anyone had to make a contingency plan because of the weather, in the UK.

Oh it's grim here, really it is now. Still the rain lashes down with such force, still the wind is hammering the house. The roads are all strewn with debris, not just gravel and sticks but big stones and bricks, even a concrete fence post my daughter said, was in the middle of the main road, just outside Hay on Wye. :(

:'( Such shocking photos filtering through , so sad for people . We are having torrential rain and the wind is getting up but at least our home is dry , thankful for that xx

Floods very bad round here, not that they affect me unless I wanted to go to Worcester or the nearest small town, both flooded. I took Rourke for a walk this afternoon in the pouring rain and could look out over the Severn plain, I have never seen the extent of the water spreading that far before.

That's bad news. I was hoping it being worse down here today meant it had come south and was drier for everyone northwards. :(

Stay safe, everyone. The wind is howling again here now and although it’s been dry today - and even sunny for a while - the rain has started again. We haven’t has flooding locally, although apparently the basement of my grandson’s nursery flooded yesterday, but the roads are once again pitted with potholes which aren’t very visible in torrential rain!

Yeesh you guys, hope you all “weather” the storm ok!

On another note, here’s a pic from yesterday I took as we were driving from our small town to the city to see our kids (it was a holiday called Family Day). Temp was -20, windchill -28. Now you know why I always exclaim over your lovely green all winter...sometimes over here I feel like I’m living in a black and white photograph.

How long does that last for? What is the weather for each season? When I remember the winters growing up in Scotland, I know they were nowhere near that temperature. I do remember we had one source of heat, a coal fire in the sitting room and the bedroom windows had the most beautiful patterns on the INSIDE made of frost. Now our winters are wet.
