Doggy brags

Lovely walk in the woods with Cassie this morning. The spring scents are intoxicating for her at present, and there's been a bit too much free hunting going on for my liking, so I have been working on training exercises lately, instead of doing such and such a walk. More mental activity, less distance covered etc.

I think that at the moment there is much hare activity going on up there, she seems to find their presence irresistible. So today we did some hunt in a small area stuff, and then I got her to do off lead heel along the ride where she often departs into the undergrowth. This is probably a good 120 yds long,(maybe more) it was mega hard for her, I could see her nose going the whole time -- is sausage really enough at the end or do I go hunting? BUT she did it, with minimal re-cues:hearteyesdog:

This is a massive deal for her, to do that though what for her is the biggest distraction out there.

Very happy with my beautiful girl :hearteyesdog:

I've been so pleased with how Monty is coping with being close to other dogs but not playing with them (a couple of exceptions. of course)

In so many situations we are able to keep him close, both on and off the lead, and luring with a gravy bone, plus another one for reward. I know this is close a a bribe, as I've no plans to fade the lure yet, but am so pleased we can get and hold his attention in (relatively) close proximity.

I have to share this. I'm so proud of my boy. Dog dog reactive, so walks are a challenge at the moment. Yesterday on what used to be empty farm fields we encountered, hares 3 of them and 2 separate walkers.
The hares he sees, but I say his name and Cupar immediately returns to me without chasing.
The first walker I didn't know whether he had a dog, so Cupar was put on a lead, the guy didn't have a dog but as I'm social distancing by miles we walked down the side of the field, when I released Cupar, he took off after the guy but as soon as I called his name , he ran straight back to me.
The second walker, I could see had no dog, as Cupar was being reinforced for his sit stay, I decided to stay where we were and let the lady go past, my amazing boy sat, looked around at the lady and looked back at me.
Last but not least, on our daily exercise, we pass a garden that has a wee fluffy dog that runs and barks at everything, my boy has not once retaliated this week, he goes to the fence and looks at me to get his cheese.
This is him practicing his sit and stay.20200410_105638.jpg
