Homer being sick

That's such good news about his spleen tumour being benign. My Brogan died of a cancerous spleen tumour (splenic tumour?) so I've really been holding my breath for you. I wonder if they prioritised the spleen and not the gland for the first surgery because of the danger of the tumour? I have a very limited understanding, but remember from Brogan that if a cancerous splenic tumour bursts, it's death within hours, nothing they can do. So maybe that was the priority, get that out safely in case it was cancerous (thank goodness it wasn't) and then focus on the gland issue.

I know the idea of another surgery so soon is really scary/exhausting and I don't understand the medical side of it, but as @Jacqui-S says 'better out than in' and maybe it will be such a relief for you if he's not having the dangerous effects it's creating.

I am so sorry to hear it was Brogan’s spleen. From what I’ve found out it often doesn’t show many symptoms until there is internal bleeding. :pensive:
That's right, there were zero symptoms in Brogan's case. We went out for his evening walk, the unknown tumour burst, and two hours later I came home with his harness and coat but not Brogan. He was much older than Homer and of all the ways to go it was certainly not the worst (no pain) but for obvious reasons it makes me so happy to see Homer after his surgery asking for his toast, the sweetheart. 🥰

That’s so sad, Emily. A similar thing happened with our collie-cross, Amber. She collapsed coming home from a walk, but in obvious pain and unable to move. An x-ray showed that she had cancer of the spine, so we brought her home to bury her. She had insisted on coming on the walk as usual with Wispa (then a puppy), giving no indication of any pain, so her death was a huge shock too.

Stitches came out today but he has a small bit of an infection. So on antibiotics and still no swimming for another week. Another check up next Saturday. Something about vitamin B but not sure, apparently it’s on their notes from the specialist but I don’t remember but then I wasn’t taking everything in at the time.

Just catching up… what a lot of ups and downs. Hopefully the infection will clear up quickly so you and he can have a few weeks of “normal” before the next surgery. 🙏
