So much fun to get out of the classroom!
Not in the days before tracksuits, shorts, etc. Having to play hockey in the winter on a misty field, wearing a house T-shirt, thick brown knickers, a white knitted jumper (if it was icy), long socks and hockey boots was not my idea of fun. We also had to walk to the field along the A3 wearing just those clothes and a school hat! I usually had to play defence on the winning team and spent most of the time standing peering through the mist or rain, unable to see all the goals our team was scoring!

I used to love being in my brown knickers, little pleated skirt and long socks and hockey boots :sun: However, the playing field was on the school premises, so not a long walk on the A3 😊

PS I played right inner.

We had navy knickers and a short navy kilt type thing, as Alison @Atemas describes, but we played lacrosse, rather than hockey, which I found completely terrifying. Apparently it was originally played by the Native Americans, who used to leave each team half dead on the pitch after the game and I always felt that was likely to happen to me! Also, it being a boarding school (although I was a day pupil) we had games every day, to make sure the boarders got enough fresh air and exercise, so daily torture and humiliation for me.The best times were when it snowed too heavily for games and we had to go for a walk in the snow instead. I absolutely loved this and still have fond memories of those snowy walks.
