I'm supposed to be having my first cold water swim on Saturday.
It was -3 here this morning.....
I mean, I have swam off a Scottish beach before, but not for a long time, and in the summer......
Steve stuck his hand in the water at Loch Ness and said it was so cold he thought his hand would drop off. Might be warmer in the ocean I guess? Not than I'm trying to put you off Jac, I've heard many stories of the benefits of it - including my super-fit-super-healthy physio who imbibes in this regularly

Ooooh, this is exciting! I try to get my courage up every year to try in Cornwall and then fail miserably. I see so many people (especially women) go in and think they are amazing! Are you going the full equipment route or the jump in with nothing but a swim suit approach? My friend in Ireland swims daily and swears that a wetsuit is “just a bunch of faff”.

I think I’d want quite a bit of faff myself. 😉

Having said all that, with -3C no one would blame you if you might want to postpone just a few days past the storm and the negative temps. 🥶

What was this Jacq?
I realise now it was for Ireland and parts of Scotland not blanket UK.
It's a national mobile phone alert system where they send a simultaneous (kind of) alert to all mobile phone users to warn of a major risk event.
Your phone makes a loud squawking noise for 15secs or so and displays a message..
This wasn't mine, I was too busy switching it off as I was consulting, but this was the message.

I'm not sure, but I think it's the first time it's been used in real life rather than tests. First I have had anyway.

Pretty blustery here too. We haven't been for our walk yet, I'm too worried about falling trees and flying debris. According to the weather App thing, the current wind speed is 47mph, due to peak at 49 in just under an hour. I think today's excercise is going to be a sniffy walk to the end of the road and back (no trees) followed by games in the garden.
I've moved all the bird feeders and various garden ornaments into the shed. Not much else to do but hunker down and weather the storm!💨

Our Department of Infrastructure have now declared a major incident.

"the demand on services is over and above what services can comfortably manage and additional resource will now be called in to assist where it is safe to do so – redirected from other service areas and external contractors.
Response teams continue to work tirelessly to keep arterial routes clear, but some teams have been withdrawn due to the risk of falling trees in certain areas."
