Doggy brags

I know I've already said how well Joy adapted to camping and the Wild festival, but I just have to put something about it on here. She was a total little star! Given that I have always found her to be such a cautious dog compared to our previous ones ( particularly Solstice!) she was so unphased by it all. We walked past tents with other dogs who barked at her and she just ignored them, she stayed close to me the whole time, she played beautifully with the children there and was so gentle, she coped with the live music, which actually wasn't over loud but several other dogs were frightened by it and she was completely calm during last night's very loud thunderstorm. She also clearly enjoyed herself, wagging, watching everything that was going on, fascinated by it all. I wanted a dog who I could take everywhere with me and she is exactly that little dog. I'm so pleased and so proud of her!

Well, 'Pride comes before a fall'! On our walk this morning Joy was happily trotting along the towpath off lead just a short way ahead of me, when round the corner came a woman with a small terrier on lead. I called Joy to me to put her on lead and she completely ignored me and charged at the terrier, barking furiously! Of course the terrier barked back and it sounded like a proper scrap although I'm sure it was all just noise. I turned and walked away, calling Joy to me again and this time thankfully she ran straight to me. I asked for a sit, got her lead on, asked for a sit and stay and distracted her with liver paste while the woman and terrier walked past. No more barking from either dog. I did apologise to the woman, adding that it was most out of character but she just looked the other way. Perhaps she was ignoring bad behaviour! Anyway, the point to this little tale is 'Take heart all those who think that I've got a good dog and you haven't!' Even GGJ isn't always perfect. (She is really though, to me.):heart:

Well now, she was just taken by suprise! I imagine if you could understand the barking she was probably everso polite - "Oh. I'm. Sorry. I. Didn't. See. You. There!" etc. etc. No harm done, just letting off steam - she will always be GGJ :inlove:

My thinking was similar, well, the being taken by surprise bit anyway. The barking didn't sound particularly polite!

Just have to say this - My little grandson of 16 months is now very active πŸ’™ and loves Red. He is being taught by his parents to be gentle as he pats her quite hard and pulls her legs when she’s laying down. All quite normal stuff. Red is such a star ⭐ - she is very relaxed around him and even accepts him picking her beloved squeaky ball 🎾 and playing with it. Lovely to watch. She is still a bit too licky for our liking but it’s just her natural affection. So proud and pleased with her

Next doors cat decided to visit our fully enclosed garden( it came through the gate). Cupar was lying beside me when we spotted it. The chickens had been out in the garden.
Before I could react, Cupar gave chase, the cat turned away from the chickens and I shouted Cupars name, this is not my usual recall but I'm afraid I panicked, I did not want Cupar catching this cat, he immediately put the breaks on and came running towards me. So bloomin relieved I fed him all the meat of a cooked chicken leg.
Oh and the chickens are none the wiser and hopefully that cat will not venture into our garden again.
I don't have the best behaved dog in the world but he's got an absolutely fantastic recall.
